Each year, The Salvation Army serves millions of people in disaster response efforts nationwide and around the globe. When disaster strikes, The Salvation Army is often among the first on the scene. Our trained personnel are always available to meet emergencies by providing food, shelter, clothing and spiritual comfort. In disaster relief operations, The Salvation Army's first aim is to meet the basic needs of those affected – both survivors and first responders.

Local responses have included sending personnel to New York City on 9-11, providing social workers for families affected by Superstorm Sandy and providing support to families in the Oneida and Herkimer areas who were devastated by recent flooding. In additon, thousands of emergency kits were assembled in Syracuse to assist humanitarian efforts in Haiti.
